Mr. Schueffner's Classroom Information
Welcome to the 2019/2020 school year. I am excited to get the year under way and work with every student in the 4th and 5th grade this year. I will again be teaching two math blocks in addition to having my homeroom for Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. As we get rolling with the year do not hesitate to contact me if any concerns pop up. Thanks!
Science/Social Studies
We will be finishing up science for the year by completing the last chapters of our science curriculum. These chapters deal with the Earths Systems and what we as humans can do to have a positive impact on these systems. We will then be moving into U.S. History for the second half of the year.
Block 1 - 5th Grade Math
We are currently working in Topic 9. This topic focuses on addition and subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers. Students will be expected to find common denominators and report answers in simplest form.
Please continue spending time working at home with your child on their multiplication facts. These facts are the building blocks for most of the concepts we will cover this year. if they have a firm grasp on these facts they will have a lot more success and an easier time mastering this years skills.
The students should expect to have homework twice a week this year. Homework will be due the day after it is assigned unless otherwise stated. If a student is struggling with homework on a particular night, please have them come and see me first thing in the morning when they get to school. i will either help them right away, or we will set up a time to give them the help they need

Block 2 - 4th Grade Math
We are currently working in Topic 9. This topic focuses on long division. This will be taught using the traditional method of division. Mastery of this skill takes a lot of practice. Please encourage students to practice at home using IXL or any other method.
