Welcome to Mrs. Gumm's Classroom
Odds and Ends and Upcoming Events
- Planners and Binders: Please don't forget to sign your child's planner and binder each time they are sent home. Students earn Auction Bucks for each signature and have to pay money each time they don't have one.
- Birthday Treats: When sending birthday treats, please send enough treats for 25 students
- Due to a recent change school safety procedures, any adult family member wishing to volunteer in the classroom and/or chaperone field trips needs to complete a background check. Checks are good for three years. Below is the link to the site to do the background check:

Block 1 Reading (morning)
Block 2 Math (afternoon) - 4th Grade
4th Grade Social Studies/Science
4th and 5th Grade Writing
Both classes are working on Personal Narratives - stories about an event in their lives, told from their perspectives. We picked our topics and double-checked each other to make sure we've chosen a topic not too broad (a 'watermelon' story). Now that we have our 'seed' stories, we will be working on hooking our readers with an interesting lead, adding juicy details, and making sure our characters are exchanging dialogue.
4th graders are also reviewing the basic parts of a sentence and are working on how to fix sentence errors (run-ons, incomplete sentences, etc.). We are also learning about the four different types of sentences (declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory).
5th graders are reviewing the parts of speech learned from 4th grade: nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. We are also extending our parts of speech skills by learning about interjections, prepositions, and conjunctions.
