Mrs. Versey's Happenings
March
Social Studies
We have been researching 5 of the Early Native American tribes that lived in WI this past month. From there, we are moving into the Fur Trade and the effects the European explorers had on our people and land. We will finish up with how WI becomes a State.
Language Arts
We are very busy writing our Wax Museum Reports. We have been researching our person for the last few weeks and they are ready to put all that info. into a 5 paragraph report. Please make sure they are completing their timeline at home. The report and timeline are do on March 6.
After the report is written, comes the hard part. They students need to begin memorizing what they wrote. No need to panic. They can do it. I can't wait for you to see how hard they are working.
Block 1& 2 Reading (4th/5th graders)
The next genre we will work on is historical fiction. The students will be reading a historical fiction book about the Revolutionary War. WE will learn about that time period in history as well as some of the language they used during that period. Some of the standards we will cover are, inferring(figuring out what things mean/happening when not stated in the text), first hand & second hand accounts, and discussing the theme of the text.
Other information:
*We have 26 students in class this year
Just a reminder that students should be reading for Camp Read A Lot. As students finish a book , they should touch base with their reading teacher to get a response sheet for the genre they have read. Once students complete their response sheet, they will get a badge to hang on our Camp Read A Loud bulletin board.
*Due to a recent change in the background check process, any parent wishing to volunteer in the classroom and/or chaperone field trips during the 2019-20 needs to complete a new background check. Below is the link to the site to do the background check:
